I feel sorry for people like Harold Camping who are sucked into the vortex of setting dates for the end of time - when the Bible seems to clearly dispel such nonsense.  Sadly, this behavior will only continue.  Now, as you are probably aware, Mr. Camping has indicated that God has spared humanity this judgement but will proceed with destroying the earth on October 21, 2011. What is the proper response?  To pray for him and those like him. My heart breaks for those who have been misguided and the lives that have been irreparably harmed by this maniacal behavior.  In light of the quackery that surrounds "End Times" mania, I am sharing a review I wrote of one of John Hagee's books.  Feel free to post a comment below: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Financial Armageddon: We are in a battle for our very survival . Counterfeit Gospels: A great Read about The Gospel

Counterfeit Gospels: Rediscovering the Good News in a World of False Hope By Trevin Wax Review by Steven King, MBA, MEd Available at Amazon.com Treasury Agents are taught to know the minutest nuances of a real dollar bill – that way, if exposed to a counterfeit – they will spot it very quickly. One might suspect that a Treasury Agent would be exposed to a variety of counterfeits to learn how to efficiently spot a forgery; however, a Treasury agent studies a real dollar bill with the highest scrutiny to understand its peculiarities. To learn deception therefore, requires a close scrutiny of truth. Trevin Wax writes a magnificent expose demonstrating how counterfeits have invaded the biblical presentation of the gospel. Wax asserts that codifying the gospel as merely “good news” downplays its essence. The gospel is certainly good news; it is also a story of which to embark;  it is an announcement to be exclaimed, which births a community to be experienced.  If the gospel lacks

The Book that Made Your World: A review by Steven King

Available at Amazon.com Abraham Lincoln is credited with saying, "The things I want to know are in books; my best friend is the man who'll get me a book I ain't [sic] read." I have completed a wonderful book:  The Book that Made Your World: How the Bible Created the Soul of Western Civilization and offer the following review for your enjoyment. If you have the means, you should read this book... A popular children’s song does not mince words about the centrality of the Bible : the B-i-b-le, yes that’s the book for me; I stand upon the Word of God…the B-I-B-LE. How many have been reared singing this song and have never given thought to how pivotal the Bible has been in forming modern civilization? Dr. Vishal Mangalwadi, author of thirteen books, noted political columnist, and intellectual giant from India, has written an amazing treatise  demonstrating that the Bible, understood as  the Word of God, served as the very ideological foundation of all politi

Excellent Book Recommendation

In light of the world learning of Osama Bin Laden's demise, I thought I would provide an endorsement of an excellent work entitled  The Mission, The Men, and Me: Lessons from a Former Delta Force Commander.  Pete Blaber portrays lessons learned from military gaffes while being on the hunt for Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan.  I would like to have seen more insights into the reality of a delta operator; but alas, operational security possibly precludes this. Available at Amazon.com The intellectually curious will not be disappointed: this soldier is cut from a different ilk, as he commends true leadership by some great, pithy quotes.  For instance, he extols a three-fold process for ruminating on something before making a decision: saturate , incubate , and illuminate . While the idea does not seem inherently new, his presentation resonated deeply with me. How often do people forget to spend the necessary “brain power” to let an idea gel before acting on it? Maybe your experience
