Available at Amazon.com Learning to Live: 10 Principles of Success by Darrick Bronson 128 pages, $16.95 ISBN-13: 978-1463474294 Nonfiction; Self-Help Review by Steven King, MBA, MEd Erma Bombeck regaled America with over 4000 newspaper columns where she described the ordinary life of a Midwestern suburban housewife. When thinking about life she opined on one occasion, “When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, "I used everything you gave me." How many people can say that of the talent they possess—or are most caught up in the rat race that is life wishing they could find an escape hatch? Darrick Bronson believes that too many have bought into a type of stinking thinking where they believe they are unworthy of success. God is not happy when we just go through the motions; rather God wants us to be fulfilled. After an accident nearly took his life, Darrick determined that he wa

Review of Awakening by Stovall Weems

Happy Friday! Have you ever tried the spiritual discipline of fasting? It's quite misunderstood in today's church environment, and possibly for that reason alone, is not practiced too often.  The historicity of fasting in the Old Testament is amazing and certainly speaks to Yahweh's desire of self-abasement when seeking God's counsel. With that in mind, if you're looking for information about fasting. I would look in places other than Stovall Weems' Awakening . My review is enclosed below. Awakening: A New Approach to Faith, Fasting, and Spiritual Freedom by Stovall Weems Edition:  Paperback Price:  $10.19   Look elsewhere for guidance on biblical fasting As the Apostle Paul considered his ministry, he presciently wrote a second letter to Timothy which included the following foreboding warning: For there will be a time when people will not tolerate sound teaching. Instead, following their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themse

While a person can go without food for weeks, he cannot survive more than a few days without… …water. Given that this clear liquid is perhaps the most important element known to man, is it any wonder that so many metaphors hint at it? Consider how living as a Christian has been has been equated

Available at Amazon.com Redefining Leadership: Navigating the Path from Birthright to Fulfillment in Life Assegid Habtewold (Dr.) Infinity Publishing ISBN-13: 978-0741468437 270 Pages (Includes front and back matter) Review by Steven King, MBA, MEd Peter Drucker, who has been hailed by many as the father of modern management once opined, “Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.”  Is it possible that current leadership theory has gotten it wrong and leadership is not something made—but is inherent in all people?  Assegid Habtewold thinks so and has written an excellent treatise on the fact that leadership is a type of birthright in his Redefining Leadership .  If one desires to lead, he should find what he is passionate about and fulfill Drucker’s mantra—such a determination will inevitably lead to doing right things. Habtewold’s writing is reminiscent of what Steven Covey postured in his Eighth Habit , where adherents are encouraged to find the

Review of American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History

This one is quite interesting...a good read for men.  Little adolescent with the language...but I polished off in two days.  Lots of good information about guns and "some" of the techniques used by snipers.   The military guy you buy books for will love it.  (This review was also posted at Reader Views). Happy Friday! -Steve Available at Amazon.com American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History by Chris Kyle William Morrow HarperCollins Publishers 10 East 53rd Street New York , NY 10022 Phone: 212-207-7000, http://www.harpercollins.com Why do movies such as The Bourne Identity , Mission Impossible , and Taken appeal to men on a primordial level?  Commandos seem larger than life as they throw caution to the wind to stalk and destroy the enemy.  Special operatives exude confidence and live a life that few men can.  Such selfless devotion to their country inspires others to join their ranks and, if necessary, make the ultimate s
